About Us

Diva At the Stage Door is a Theater Production Company formed in Detroit, Michigan in 2005 by award winning radio personality Frankie Darcell. The company’s first production was the legendary Ntosake Shange stage play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuff" The show opened to amazing reviews and standing ovations. Since that time the company under the direction of Darcell who refers to her productions as "intellectual theater" because of her love for history and the black experience has produced and Darcell directed additional titles that has included an adaptation of the James Weldon Johnson iconic stage play "God's Trombones", Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues, and the iconic stage play by Reginald Rose "12 Angry Men" . As an author of two successful books "Frankie Darcell A Story to Tell" and "Conversations For Sista's Only" Darcell decided in 2018 to bring "Conversations" A comical yet serious look at the stuff we gossip about to the stage. The play opened at the Independence Seaport Museum Theater in Philadelphia, Pa. to three hugely successful shows and was scheduled to debut in Detroit, Michigan and Norfolk, Virginia prior to the pandemic. Catherine Hicks Publisher of the Philadelphia Sunday Sun called the show "Brilliant" a funny yet emotional journey through womanhood, a modern day "For Colored Girls" addressing issues of black woman and our life experiences unapologetically. Darcell states "I want to bring productions to the stage that allows people to critically think about the issues we face everyday with humor, wit, historic relevance and perspectives the audience can relate to and enjoy. To date guest have not been disappointed.
